The Dog Days of Summer

July 13, 2016

We use that phrase frequently, but do you know how it came to be? The ancient Romans coined the expression for the hottest days of summer, as they associated them with the star Sirius (in the constellation Canis Major - Greater Dog), which rises at the same time as the sun, typically from early July through mid August.

The Dog Days are also used to describe a period marked by lethargy and inactivity, but that certainly does not apply here at Home TheaterWorks! On the contrary, we are quite busy during this time; our clients are spending more time outdoors, and many of our projects typically include outdoor TVs and speakers around the pool and throughout the garden, making outdoor living areas more enjoyable, entertaining more fun and the heat more bearable.

But it’s not all about fun! As part of our Smart Home automation services, we offer automated shades, lighting control and smart thermostats, all which can significantly reduce energy costs and make indoor living more enjoyable as well. Did you know that you could save up to 12% on your heating and air conditioning bill with these devices?

How do you beat the Dog Days of Summer? CHILL with an icy beverage by the pool while listening to some COOL tunes, and remember that if you have a Canis Major or two of your own at home, be mindful that your furry friends react differently to the heat than we do and keep plenty of water on hand for them as well.
